Background on Deborah and her Philosophy
| | | My Background: I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Psychology and a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology from Eastern Washington University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Idaho. I am a member of the Washington Counseling Association and a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association. My professional experience includes 16 years of private practice, which includes a year and a half overseas in Saipan and Singapore counseling international clientele. I have also served as adjunct faculty atth Institute for Extended Learning's Life Skills/Women's Programs where I counseled, facilitated groups, and taught for three years. I work with adult individuals and couples in a wide range of issues including: stress/anger reduction, life/spiritual direction, women's issues, personal empowerment/growth, trauma, divorce, grief, relationship issues, codependency, career choice, family of origin, self esteem, communication skills.
| | | My Philosophy: I believe that physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health are all part of an individual's overall well-being, and that self-awareness, personal empowerment and conscious choices all contribute to a complete person. I apply cognitive, behavioral and affective approaches. One of the methods that I have found to be very helpful in a wide range of situations utilizes relaxation, guided imagery, and visualization techniques of symbols and pictures. This method assists clients in liberating themselves from old, restrictive behavior patterns.
